This workshop focused on the presentation and prioritization of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) focused on nature-based soil, water, and land management (NBSLM) practices in urban and peri-urban areas to reduce flooding and gully erosion risks in Burundi, with a focus on the cities of Bujumbura and Gatumba, which face significant risks related to climate variability and uncontrolled urbanization. The objectives of this workshop were to:

  1. Validate the national inventory of integrated water resources management practices.
  2. Prioritize relevant integrated water resources management practices for reducing flooding and erosion risks. 3) Strengthen local technical capacity for the design and implementation of nature-based solutions.
  3. Conduct field visits to observe existing nature-based solutions and promote peer learning.

Following this workshop, the national inventory document of locally identified, tested, and evaluated NBS was validated by various stakeholders in Burundi.
